How to set Google Calendar reminder for longer than four weeks?
Google Calendar reminders max out at 4 weeks (28 days) before an event. For long-range project management (contract renewals in 6 months, annual planning), this limit doesn’t work.
The 4-week limit:
When setting a reminder on an event, the furthest option is “4 weeks before.” You cannot set a reminder 2 months, 6 months, or 1 year in advance.
Workaround 1: Google Tasks (best for most)
Google Tasks integrate directly into Google Calendar:
- In Google Calendar, click Tasks (sidebar button).
- Create a new task with a title (e.g., “Contract renewal: Acme Corp”).
- Set a due date (can be months or years away).
- Google will remind you as the due date approaches.
Tasks have no time limit. Set them for whenever you need.
Workaround 2: Create a reminder event at the 4-week mark
- Create an event 4 weeks before your actual deadline.
- Title it with a note to the future (e.g., “REMINDER: Contract renewal due in 4 weeks”).
- Set a 4-week reminder on this event.
- When it triggers, you’ll see the note and handle the actual deadline.
Not elegant but functional.
Workaround 3: External task/reminder app
- Todoist, Microsoft To Do: Better for long-range task management with unlimited reminder windows
- Google Keep: Simple notes with reminders
- These sync better with very long timelines than Calendar
Best practice for consultants:
For project milestones and renewals beyond 4 weeks:
- Use Google Tasks (easiest, built-in)
- Title clearly: “Contract Renewal: Acme (Due: June 15)”
- Google will remind you as the date approaches
- Keep all project tasks in one place
For everyday events, 4 weeks of advance reminders is usually enough.
