How do I sync Facebook birthdays to Google Calendar?
Facebook removed its birthday sync feature years ago. You can’t pull Facebook birthdays directly into Google Calendar anymore.
Use Google Contacts instead. It’s simpler and more reliable:
- Open Google Contacts. Go to contacts.google.com.
- Click a contact (or create a new one).
- Click Edit.
- Scroll down and click Birthday (or + Add field > Birthday).
- Enter the birthday date (month and day; year is optional).
- Click Save.
Google Calendar will automatically create a recurring all-day event for that birthday every year. You’ll get reminder notifications (default is 1 day before, but you can change this in Google Calendar settings).
Why Google Contacts instead of Facebook?
- Reliability: You control the data. No need to depend on Facebook’s features.
- Reminders: Google Calendar sends you notifications you can customize.
- Portability: Your contacts stay with you even if you delete Facebook.
- Privacy: You’re not sharing birthday data across multiple platforms.
Add a recurring event manually (alternative):
If you prefer, you can also create a yearly recurring event directly in Google Calendar:
- Click a date in Google Calendar.
- Click Create (or +).
- Enter the person’s name (e.g., “Sarah’s Birthday”).
- Click More Options.
- Set the date and time (all-day events work best).
- Under Repeat, select “Yearly”.
- Click Save.
This way, the event repeats every year on that date.
Checking Facebook occasionally:
You can still visit Facebook > Events > Birthdays to see upcoming birthdays of your Facebook friends. But for people you need reminders about (clients, close contacts), Google Contacts is the better system.
